Background:

A 300-bed hospital in the southeast engaged HSG to perform an operational assessment of their rapidly growing employed physician network. Leadership was concerned that the infrastructure of the network had not kept pace with the growth. After reviewing the findings, the senior executive team decided to make a change in the management of the network. Hospital leadership engaged HSG to provide both interim executive management for the network while conducting a national search for a permanent network executive.

Solution:

Interim Administrator: HSG runs and operates employed physician networks across the country and has a vast network of experienced executives to place in these executive positions. Within two weeks, HSG had placed a qualified, experienced interim administrator on the ground to stabilize the network. During the first week of the 12-week interim engagement, HSG met with senior leadership and the interim administrator to outline priority items that needed to be addressed during the engagement. Action plans and timelines were attached to each priority to ensure that these items were addressed and implemented during the duration of the interim engagement. Weekly status calls were held with senior leadership to make sure the timelines were met and to reprioritize action items, if necessary.

Permanent Executive Search:

Running concurrently with the interim administrator on site, HSG began the work of recruiting a permanent executive for the physician network. HSG recruiters have actually been in leadership roles in employed physician networks and, as such, have unique insight into finding qualified, experience candidates that fit well with the organization. In order to ensure that the search was completed effectively and efficiently, weekly calls were set up with senior executive to review milestones in the search process. After an extensive search and several interviews, five finalists were chosen to take a predictive index survey. From those five candidates, three were selected for on-site interview with the management team and one was chosen to lead the network. The permanent executive search was completed within the stated 12-week time frame.

Outcome/Client Testimonial:

“HSG could not have been more responsive, and managed to find for us both a phenomenal interim leader and several experienced candidates, one of which we hired. Again, they exceeded our expectations”
